Gillingham manager Martin Allen was pleased both Danny Kedwell and Ben Strevens were on the scoresheet against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.
Allen had nothing but praise for his two strikers, Danny Kedwell and Ben Strevens with the pair both getting on the
scoresheet:
“It’s always nice to see your strikers scoring goals, so that was nice for them. What I was pleased about was we got a lot of
crosses into the box, we had a lot of good football and movement through the middle of the field which allowed us to get into
the final third and make good crosses.”
“We all know that crosses into the box is what forwards thrive on. We also scored off a set play which was good news.”
“If you pass the ball well, it allows your full-backs to get forward and Joe Martin has made two goals today, so that’s great
news.”
“If your midfield players don’t pass it, your full-backs are too deep and they haven’t got the legs to actually make up the
extra yards, but if you do make those passes, it gives your full-backs the chance, just like how Chelsea play.”
“It will also give your midfield players the chance to make runs and we have got midfielders that can run. Dack can run, Allen
can run and Strevens is good at finding them, Kedwell has been good at holding it up and finding them which is why they’ve
been making chances for the two lads.”
Kedwell was named captain for the game and Allen was full of praise for the striker after his two goal display:
“He’s lost nearly a stone in weight since we’ve been back. He looks trimmer and he looks the part. To be fair we have to
credit them all as we can’t just pick out Danny, they’ve all taken on board the ideas of trying to eat better, trying to eat
properly.”
“There’s a few of them that have lost weight and they look slim, they look trim, they look hungry, they look thirsty, they
look focused, they look ready, they look as though they are enjoying themselves.”
